Just to update some stuff I said earlier, I definitely have noticed that restarting the computer halfway threw the day like at lunch or whatev speeds c1v5.02 back up. I have noticed the occasional purple squiggly corrupt file show up but when it happens i replace that files capture one files from my backup and it fixes it.

hey eric(s) and all you techs, happy new year! i had that underscore issue last week, and the workaround i used was to just copy and paste a "filename_" from a text edit file i created. that seemed to work.

overall i like version 5. i worked on a very low capture rate still life job last week with a p45+ and it worked really smoothly, no major issues. i have a canon 5d mark II and it loads and renders previews way faster than lightroom v2 does so that makes me pretty happy.

It’s my experience that the Nikon 3Dx does not tether as well as the 5D.

The 3Dx and C1 pro make sharp pictures with beautiful colors, but I don't think its the best camera to use if you’re shooting fashion or portraits or anything else in bursts tethered to C1 Pro. Setting the camera to lossless NEF does not make much of a difference neither.

In regard to C1 pro, it doesn’t matter which computer you use [latest MacPro tower with 16GB ram or latest 17” Macbook Pro with a SSD drive] C1 Pro will always at some point crash and sometimes freeze up preventing a force quit all together. Its buggy as hell, and has been so ever since it was launched [both v.4 and v.5]. Phase One promises all the functions that I would like to see and use in my workflow, but the software will crash and/or corrupt your col. file at any given moment. Just yesterday, while renaming files, C1 Pro crashed and corrupted the col50 file. It happened while post processing the files at the end of the day, but I can only think, what if it happened the moment the model stepped onto the stage and the photographer, the client, and 700 other people turned their eyes toward the computer only to see… ?

I recognize that C1 Pro works halfway acceptably when working with small numbers, maybe 100 files or so, but that’s not a typical case scenario for the photographers who employ me. Last year, 4 days of shooting resulted in more than 99,000 files, and the only option for this job was to use Bridge.

I wish that any Phase One representative or dealer who reads this and would like to prove the opposite would step forward. I’m still using this software, but with pain, and I just paid $100 for the upgrade to v.5.

I think they should have given out v.5 for free together with an apology.

anyways..
Happy New Tech Year To Everybody,
Esben

P.S. This is how 99,767 images looks squeezed into a bottle of Lucozade.

wow guys. a lot of great info. Obviously you guys are using it more than me. Most of the people I am working with these days are using Lightroom, which i know inside and out now and as such, I am a little slow through the gate with C1 5.0.2 - although in version 5.0 that kelvin slider shortcut was not set. It is a bug though, no? Application based shortcuts should be disabled when you are in an input box. That can create some issues down the road for sure.

thx!

It's def got some buggyness but a couple things you mentioned are easily fixed.

Not being able to use underscore is obviously an over site on the part of Phase when writing the keyboard shortcuts. It can be easily fixed though by editing the keyboard shortcut.

I've never experienced it reverting back to capture and 4 digit counter.

I'm typically running 10.5.8 tower w 12gb ram and dual quad core 3.2's. Two separate drives.
And shooting with Canon 1ds mark3

One thing i've noticed with previewing the images as they load is, if thing are slow setting to view when ready and using the arrow keys to jump to the next image gives you the fastest preview time. I hope they fix that one.

As far as the favorites it will automatically set the capture folder to favorite. The first time you set a folder to cap folder you get a dialog box asking if you want to or not. you can check a box to not show you this again. If you don't see this just reset your program.

As far as capture counter it has to be reset every time manually in the drop down menu. You just have to train yourself not to forget.

Overall I like the new version for what it allows as far as viewing images, window arrangement customization and keyboard shortcut customization. I do notice slower capture rates but the worst part is render time.

What definitely helps is don't have more then 200 images in a folder.(if the photog is shooting more dump them in another folder and combine them after the shot is done. If things get real slow reset the program deleting all cache files for it and batch queen files and restart the machine.

Just to address the underscore issue: on the phase one forums they recommend that you remap the keyboard shortcut for the - kelvin shift to something other than "shift -".
